Much of the Cooperative’s ministry takes place at the Community Center, built in the 1970s by the Cooperative on donated land and using volunteer labor. The Center is located at 135 NE Dill Street, Madison FL, about five miles north on Highway 145 from Madison.
The United Methodist Cooperative Ministries began in the late 1960s, uniting Madison County’s Methodist churches. At the time, the churches had less than 200 members each. Today, the churches range in size from 18 members to more than 450 in a county that has about 19,000 residents. While each church maintains its own identity and ministries, they work together on local and global mission projects. Eight UM churches support the outreach ministries of the Cooperative including emergency assistance, community classes and a clothing pantry at 799 Pinckney Street in Madison FL.
The 55 Plus Club meets the second Wednesday of every month, September through May at the United Methodist Center. The club is open to all Madison County residents who are 55 years old and older. All faiths and races are welcome, and no reservations are required. The luncheon is free and includes an entertaining program – from music, to guest speakers, to fashion shows. Lunch is served at 12 noon, followed by the program.
Methodist churches in Madison County rotate hosting duties for the monthly luncheons.
